On the contrary, Sri Lanka have been completely unbeatable in this tournament. They have dominated opponents in every game and have not even been given any chance in Zimbabwe. They are now taking a picture in front of a flag with the words “Namaste India and the gracious Dasun Shanaka calls his Dutch group to take part them for a big group photo. In this regard, we’ll close our coverage of this year’s World Cup Qualifiers, it was fun writing about the games. We’ll continue our cricket coverage and continue watching these teams in their preparations for the huge World Cup now. Good luck, and good bye to you now…
The Dutch were defeated today, but that doesn’t mean they should be dissuaded from their experience in this contest. They did not have a lot of their regulars, who were stuck in the county cricket. Few gave them the chance to beat other teams like Zimbabwe, West Indies and Ireland in their quest to qualify for the World Cup. However, Scott Edwards and co. demonstrated the strength of teamwork and determination and a united effort has helped them overcome the odds.
Dasun Shanaka:
Prior to this tournament the team had a successful game against Afghanistan. Everyone on this team wanted to show that we’re a better team than a side that has to take part in the qualifying matches. Our biggest concern was injuries. Lahiru as well as Chameera were taken out early. We were in control of the situation at all times and played a good game of cricket. I’ve been playing with them for a while, so I know when to utilize them. The plan was completed in advance, Chris and Mahela were helping out. I am sure they will play in a significant role in India and elsewhere. There was pressure, but management and I didn’t allow pressure to affect the team. The change room in which we played was always positive, and we played with a positive attitude. We didn’t want to play in the qualifying rounds, but we are extremely proud of winning this tournament and head to India. I want to be grateful to Cricket Zimbabwe for the opportunity to be grateful to the Zimbabwe supporters as well as those of Sri Lankan fans and all the fans from all over the world.
Scott Edwards:
It’s a very intense event. I am extremely proud of the team and we’ve played some excellent cricket. We are looking forward to the coming months. We’re in the hunt to beat the other team. The bowlers deserve credit for keeping them to a goal we could reach, however we must improve our spinners. The group’s culture is incredible. Zimbabwe is an amazing location, and that has also helped. The guys have stood up when they were required to, which is why we’re going to India. We have gained confidence from this. Thus, when we chased 280 in just 44 overs We had a plan for this. This is huge for us players, our fans in addition to Dutch cricket. The chance to be part of 10 teams in the World Cup is massive for us. We hope to put up some solid performance in India.
Sean Williams is the Player of the Tournament. Sikandar Raza collects the trophy on his behalf.
Dilshan Madushanka | Player of the Match:
It was a pleasure to be the captain of the final match. I’ve been able to trust my fundamentals and my role is to take wickets using the ball that I’ve just invented. Glad that I was able to perform. The wickets were ideal for batters however we have to perform well in any conditions for bowlers. I’ve learned much through Kasun Rajitha. He’s an instructor to me.
Chris Silverwood | Sri Lankan Head Coach:
Our first objective was to get qualified then prepare and prepare for India. We’ll be home with a smile. From a personal perspective viewpoint, it was pleasing to realize that we’ve risen in confidence. This is significant in both the physical and mental aspect. We must ensure that our players are in good shape. We have three young bowlers who have a lot of potential. I am very happy with the spin bowling department. I’m sure everyone is aware of how much strength we are.
Wanindu Hasaranga:
Prior to our arrival, we had a successful game against Afghanistan. Our bowlers were successful and took on the momentum of the previous series. We aim to bowl wicket-to-wicket and it aids us. Particularly as a team, and individually, we carry the momentum with us to India. We’ve played many games over the past two years in India and we are well-aware of the playing conditions.
